Frequently asked questions

How much compensation can I get?

EU261 sets fixed amounts by flight distance: €250 (up to 1 500 km), €400 (1 500–3 500 km) and €600 (over 3 500 km). It is per passenger — a family of four on a long-haul flight can be owed €2 400.

Does it apply to my flight?

Yes if your flight departed from an EU/EEA/UK airport (any airline), or arrived in the EU/EEA/UK on an EU/UK-based airline. Delays must be 3+ hours at arrival; cancellations announced less than 14 days before departure qualify.

What about bad weather or strikes?

Airlines don't pay for "extraordinary circumstances" such as severe weather or air traffic control restrictions. But strikes by the airline's own staff and most technical faults are NOT extraordinary — courts have repeatedly sided with passengers.

How far back can I claim?

Depends on the country: about 3 years in Sweden and Germany, 5 years in France, 6 years in the UK. A disruption from a past holiday may still be claimable.

Should I claim myself or use a service?

Claiming directly with the airline is free and keeps 100% of the payout. A no-win-no-fee claim service takes a cut (typically 25–50%) but handles rejections, legal escalation and airline stonewalling — useful when the airline refuses or ignores you.
